junkie xl?

man, this past weekend was fucking fantastic ... though friday was completely frustrating. the announcement that junkie xl was moved to new dawn from the ascot room was made last wednesday night, after all new dawn presales were sold. there was only one way left to get tickets, and that was to go to the official pre party and buy 'em there. so the plan was on friday to go to this preparty when it opened at 8pm, grab the tickets, go back home, and then go out to plush.. well that didn't work.

the promoter wasn't at dusk, the pre party, at 8pm and they said she'd be by eventually. so i decided that we should head back home and then leave almost immediately to meet up with stu's friends at the destined meeting place. once we met up with his friend's, i had them go to plush and then i headed back to dusk to get the tickets. she still wasn't there, which made me more and more irritated, but the music at dusk was pretty nice, so i wasn't irritated that much ^_^. an hour later she showed up and i got my tickets and headed to plush.

plush was quite fun. tabu was the same place it was last time i was there. the lighting in that place is kinda dim though. the quest is much more vibrant in that aspect. john aquaviva played some night stuff, but it really seemed to run out of steam. he's played his songs in a very interesting fashion. they went through his laptop, but he cued songs and beat matching using the turntables as input devices.. very weird. as the vibe kinda died, we kinda died on it, so we left for home.

saturday we went to some asian markets. i don't know whats up with that one underneath the bridge. it's never open, but it not closed for forever.. maybe only during the week or something. eh.. after that failure we went to the asian market in brooklyn center where i picked up a few new ramen singles that i hadn't had yet. we also stopped off at hot comics and shinders looking for stuff, and then proceeded home where we caught up on adult swim and then watched the green ranger saga from the original power rangers show. after that....

new dawn was amazing. and one of the best parts was that the age limit was 16+ so my little brother had the fortune of coming with us ^_^. right as we got there and waiting to enter, an ambulance housed 2 teenagers who overdosed somewhere inside. way to go kids. way to push the stereotype of a raver. i should have taken a picture but i would have felt way to guilty standing there. oh well...

instead it was massive. massive as in the vibe, not the venue. though it wasn't all that small. we got there as paul birken was finishing up his live techno set. we waited patiently for junkie xl to arrive and tear down. and as junkie xl setup, local dj lime played a quick two trance tracks to warm up the crowd. dj lime is pretty slick. i half wished we would have gotten there sooner to hear his hour long set at the beginning of the night.

junkie xl fucking tore down the house. my god. he played a fucking powerful set of songs that i both loved and recognized. breezer live BEAUTIFUL.. fucking beautiful... beauty never fades.. dirty sticky floors.. angels.. and the UNforgettable.. blue pill, red pill .. the place goes fucking crazy for that song every time it's played. you can make fun of that song all you want, but when you hear it live. the bitching stops there... junkie xl was phenominal. i'm so glad they moved him here instead of the ascot room.

after junkie xl laid to rest, we left the main room in search of other talent, plus to have a little rest for all the rockin' out. we ended up in the hardcore room as Luna C played some amazing tracks. hardcore mix of johnny b. good .. what will they think of next ^_^.

after the needed rest it was finally time that Grayarea had setup and was about to begin in the main room. though since everyone was so completely tired, we agreed that we'd only stay for 5 or 10 minutes of it.. sigh. from what i heard Grayarea was awesome. completely amazing. i wish i could have stayed to hear that rest of the tracks that would have surely destroyed the crowd as junkie xl had a few hours before hand. oh well, i'll be sure to catch 'em the next time they are around.

on sunday we all returned to our respective schools with pleasant thoughts of partying in our heads.. ^_^ and kristina and i decided on going to crystal method on that thursday 2 weeks from now..
