Intro to Japanese II

This course continues from where Intro to Japanese I finishes. With all the contents of Genki I complete, we continue to Genki II to look at more advanced grammar patterns, such as Potential form, Volitional form, Transitive/Intransitive verb pairs, Honorifics, and Causative/Passive.

By now, students should understand all short-form and long-form conjugations of Verbs, Nouns, and Adjectives, as well as various grammar patterns that use them. They should also know over 150 kanji, plus around 400 words that use them. Students should also have a pretty good idea on how to express themselves in a basic manner.

The following materials are required for the course:

  • Genki Japanese II textbook + workbook

  • Kanji Look and Learn textbook + workbook (still used from previous course)

Intro to Japanese II covers the contents of Genki II, but I have yet to fully complete the book by the time students graduate. The last couple of lessons are usually thrown together or quickly glossed over.
