Traveling along the north coast Noto Pennisula from the east point to Wajima city, my friends and I came across a festival happening in Suzu City Otani Town 珠洲市大谷町. The Otani Koi Banner Festival or 大谷鯉のぼりフェスティバル takes place on May 3rd, Consitutional Memorial Day and continues to May 4th, Green Day. The Koi Banners are displayed through Japan to Golden Week and Children's Day (May 5th) in particular.
For the Otani Festival, hundreds of Koi Banners are string from the west and east sides of the embankments of Suzudaiya river. We visited on a particularly windy day, which shot all the Koi in the air in unison, as if they were swimming along in the sky above the river.
We stopped for a little while, bought some festival food, looked at some things, and then continued westward towards Wajima.
