This is the first official class for the 5年生, but I taught it much like a second part to the introductory lesson, since I already covered Hello, and My Name is.
This lesson has 6 pages in the book somehow, but there's so little that's actually being taught. Only "Hello", and "My name is ___." I'm reviewing those concepts and adding a bit more.
I explain the meaning of "Hello", and "My name is ___." And then make a conversation out of it, by introducing "What's your name?". Also, we used "I like ___" for the introductions, so I taught, "And you?" too. This creates an actual dialogue out of the grammar, rather than just a back-and-forth.
I explained some other greetings, too. And I played the Hi Friends CD of the children saying "Hello" in different languages. They thought, "Namaste" was the funniest thing, for some reason. <_<
We also did the activity on page 7. Since they already had their English name tags, after they introduced themselves to each other, they had to write down their partner's name in English on that page. Within 5 minutes, some kids were able to get 10 names, which is pretty good.
Overall, this lesson worked out just fine. I think it was a great follow-up to the Self-Introduction lesson I gave that right before.
