When he was 48 years old, Momofuku Ando created the first package of precooked instant noodles in 1958 during Japan's food crisis post-war. From there, he established his company, Nissin and sold his noodles across Japan. It was a bit expensive at first, but over time the price dropped allowing more people access to the noodles. In 1971, he invented cup noodles, which allowed people to have a complete meal with only a little bit of hot water. No longer, did they need a stove or bowl to cook the noodles.
The Momofuku Ando Instant Ramen Noodle museum pays tribute to the man who invented one of Japan's most renowned products. You can see a replica of his wooden shack where he invented the noodles, travel through the history and evolution of the brand, and even make your own cup noodles!
Below are photos I took of the museum when my brother and I went to Osaka in 2011.
