Update on March 22nd, 2014

When Portland, OR was first built, it had a network of underground tunnels underneath the entire city. These were known as the Shanghai Tunnels. This is where the term "I've been shanghai'ed" came from. Some mild-mannered stiff would come into a bar, and drink way too much. Underneath the bar, pirates and seaman would wait for the right moment, then kidnap him, and sell him into slavery aboard some ship.
