Clear View from Mt. Norikura 乗鞍岳

One thing I find absolutely amazing about living up in the mountains is the view from Norikura. On a clear autumn day, like today, you can see almost all of Takayama. But, more interesting, you can see all the way across the prefecture. In the distance is Mt. Hakusan 白山, which is on the border of Gifu and Fukui. Norikura is on the border of Gifu and Nagano.

There's also an interesting weather effect that happens in autumn. Because Takayama is literally surrounded by mountains, the weather tends to be isolated. With the warm autumn sunrise, the cold ground creates fog which becomes trapped by the moutains. As such, when viewing the city from above, you can see a lake of clouds.
