Ikegaharashitsugen 池ヶ原湿原

The Ikegahara Marsh is a naturally marshy area up in the Hida mountains. While the marsh itself is at a high altitude compared to populated areas in Hida, it exists in a low plain surrounded by higher peaks and hills. In Spring, as the snow on those mountains melt, all the water pools into Ikegahara, creating this marsh.

Spring is the best time to visit because growing in the marshy waters are hundreds of thousands of Mizubashou flowers. With the rush of warm air and cool water, the flowers bloom, creating field of white flowers people in the old days describe as Spring fairies.

One of my colleagues and I visited Ikegahara Shitsugen during Golden Week.
